People of all skill levels will benefit from this program.
We allow people work at thier own natural pace.
Our students range from younger folks right out of high school to older people that have been in the trade for some time and just want to build new skills.
STWW is a great starting point for a Cabinetmaking Apprenticeship.
Previous experience is not required.

Why take the Studio Woodworking Program?

Upon successful completion of this program you will have core skills that will enable you to seek employment in any of the many facets of the woodworking industry.

You may also be inspired to create your own business and studio/shop.
Older folks may want to increase their skill level to be a more accomplished hobbyist or help create a retirement income.
This program may also provide an opportunity for someone already employed in the trade to gain further skills in fine woodworking rather than just basic production techniques.
Whatever category you might fall into, this program will provide a fantastic launching point towards a life of creation and satisfaction.

Credits: Although this program is not an apprenticeship, if successful, you will leave with an ITA recognized Cabinetmaking Level 1 that can be applied to a British Columbia Cabinetmaking Apprenticeship.
A graduate of the Studio Woodworking Program will also achieve a Certificate from Okanagan College.
If a student wants to be an apprentice after Studio Woodworking, you would start your apprenticeship at the second level, or year two.

The Studio Woodworking Program is a hands on environment. Although there is a good deal of class time and theory, you will spend the bulk of your time in the shop building a wide range projects or attending demonstrations. We love to make things!

You will be provided with all the necessary tools and equipment as well as your own workbench. If you have your own layout and/or hand tools we encourage you to bring them with you. Each student has a secure tool chest and locker to keep personal items and books.
We do require the student to purchase one plane iron of thier own. This iron costs $50 and can be purchased here at the college or from Lee Valley Tools.

Your tuition covers all learning materials, building materials, and hardware you will need to complete the program requirements.

This program is be demanding because of the amount of material being covered, but it will be presented at a natural pace, in a natural order. There is time for each student to absorb the concepts, skills and feel of this wonderful craft.

If you have a passion for woodworking, this is the place for you.
